Just wanted to post some pictures of Richmond loaded into a game engine. On a laptop not built for gaming I get about 30FPS when shadows are displayed, turn of the shadows and I get 80FPS.

Once Richmond has been completed Newman will be next.

I have also looked at the other cities and I don’t think it will be possible to recreate them exactly the way they are now. The vertex count in the cities is very high, e.g in Sydney it can reach up to 10 million vertices on screen and this is why most players get low FPS in the cities. The “important” buildings such as hangar, factories and shops won’t be changed. But the other buildings will probably be replaced by new buildings with less vertices.

As everyone probably already knows; the current server and game client will not receive any further updates.
GOOD NEWS! A new game client is currently under planning. This new client will be a remake of the current UCGO client and will reuse much of the 3D models and graphics. Yes it is true, it’s not a joke.
Right now we are working on extracting 3D models and graphics from UCGO and recreating Newman and Richmond. Below you can see Richmond loaded into 3D Studio; on my laptop UCGO gives me about 50FPS, loading the same scene into the game engine used for the new client gives me 140FPS with 4x anti-aliasing.

The plan is to recreate the ground zone and then release the client, space will be added in later. And of course it will be fairly easy to get new MS, weapons and other stuff into the game.

There is no set release date, this will take some time to do. So to keep people interested in UCGO there will probably be some client updates with new colors.
When…or if…the new client is released it should be possible to tranfer existing accounts so you should not lose characters or skill points. But items will probably not be transfered.
Development of the new client, server and hosting will require some kind of funding in the future. So unlike how things are now it will not be completely free to play. But more on that later.

Note that this is a REMAKE of UCGO. So do not post a lot of suggestions on the forum about new functionality and things like that. The reason for the new client is to get better FPS in cities and large battles, prevent cheating, add new MS and weapons, and maybe new areas and water. The gameplay will be similar to the old UCGO client and there will not be new functionality in the game.
